Menneer JC, Sprosen MS, Ledgard SF, 2008. Effect of timing and formulation of dicyandiamide (DCD) application on nitrate leaching and pasture production in a Bay of Plenty pastoral soil. New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research 51: 377–385.
The estimate of a "response in annual pasture dry matter from dicyandiamide application of about 7%" presented in the abstract, discussion and conclusion sections of the paper is incorrect. The correct figure for the response is "about 4%". As stated in the Discussion section, this is based on "assuming a single grazing affecting 5% of the area and extrapolating data from treatments (control, urine) with and without DCD". This equates to an additional 460 kg ha–1 of dry matter or about a 4% increase, relative to the 10.4 tonne ha–1 annual pasture DM intake by cows at the site (estimated using UDDER) or annual pasture production of about 12 tonne DM ha–1.
