STUDIES ON PHYTOPLANKTON IN WELLINGTON HARBOUR

Abstract Phytoplankton organisms from four stations in Wellington Harbour are described. Particular attention is devoted to descriptions of living cells of nannoplankton both from field collections and from laboratory cultures. Organisms belonging to the following groups of algae were found: Schizophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Chrysophyceae, Xanothophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Cryptophyceae, and Dinophyceae. New species of Pyramimonas. Collodictyon, Heliapsis, Ellipsoid/on, Petalomonas, Entosipbon, Crypto-monas, and Cryptochrysis are described.
