S. J. Hughes

Plant Research Institute, Central Experimental Farm, Ottawa, Canada

Abstract The history of the generic name Catenularia Grove, syn. Psiloniella Costantin, is briefly reviewed and characteristics of the genus discussed. Three new species are illustrated and described from New Zealand collections; these are Chaetosphaeria novae-zelandiae Hughes and Shoemaker, which has an undescribed Catenularia phialospore state, Catenularia longispora Hughes, and C. macrospora Hughes. The Catenularia state of Chaetospbaeria cupulifera (Berk, and Br.) Sacc, which is a European species, is briefly mentioned. Nine species and a variety described in or transferred to Catenularia are excluded from the genus; these are enumerated and redispositions indicated for a few of them.
