Abstract Two species of Trichopeltheca are illustrated and described, T. asiatica Bat. et al., the type species, from New Zealand, Australia, and Chile, and T. stevensii n. sp. from Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Both species produce Plokamidomyces phialophores and Trichothallus phragmoconidia on setose thalli which are one cell thick. T. hawaiiensis, the type species of Trichothallus is the phragmoconidial state of Trichopeltheca stevensii; P. colensoi, the type species of Plokamidomyces, is the phialophore state of Trichopeltheca asiatica. Phycopeltis nigra is shown to be based on Trichopeltheca asiatica.
