Abstract Nine genera and 46 species of New Zealand plants are listed which are known to have domatia (pits of a non-pathological nature) on the under side of their leaves. Domatia are recorded in some species for the first time. A description is given of the mature domatia of Elaeocarpus dentatus (Elaeocarpaceae), Ackama rosaejolia (Cunoni-aceae), Carpodetus serratus (Escalloniaceae), Rubus cissoides (Rosaceae), Notbofagus jusca (Fagaceae), Pennantia corymbosa (Icacinaceae), and Vitex lucens (Verbenaceae).
