A MALE-STERILE SYNDROME IN LOLIUM SPP. X FESTVCA ARUNDINACEA

L. B. Anderson

Grasslands Division, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Palmerston North

Abstract Male-sterile Lolium X Festuca arundinacea Fi hybrids showed floral abnormalities ranging from non-dehiscent anthers to complete transformation of the three stamens to pistils. It is suggested that the latter manifestations of male sterility are due to genic-diplontic sterility. Lolium genotypes appeared to affect the frequency of these abnormalities.
