Abstract The algal plankters Brachiomonas submarina Bohlin and Asterococcus limneticus G. M. Smith are described from New Zealand for the first time. Brachiomonas comes from settling ponds at the Marsden Point Oil Refinery at Whangarei, and Asterococcus from a garden pond on the North Shore of Auckland.
