Mycosphaerella graminicola (Fuckel) Sanderson comb, nov., the ascogenous state of Septoria tritici Rob. apud Desm.

F. R. Sanderson

Plant Diseases Division, DSIR, Private Bag, Christchurch, New Zealand

Abstract Mycosphaerella species was first linked with Septoria tritici Rob. apud Desm. in New Zealand (Sanderson 1972) and has since been found in the United Kingdom (K. M. Harrower, pers. comm.) and Australia (Brown 1975; Sanderson, unpublished data). Work in New Zealand indicates that the perfect state is important in the epidemiology of Septoria leaf blotch of wheat.
