Structure and origin of Libocedrus bidwillii stands in the Waikato District, New Zealand

Abstract Results of increment corings from 85 trees, together with field studies, indicate a pioneer role for the species, suggesting that periodic site disturbance is necessary for regeneration of the species. Counting and measuring of groups of rings in the increment cores show that interpretation of long-term climatic fluctuations is not reliable. Results in this respect therefore concur with those of Scott (1972).
