Occurrence of manganese-rich inclusions in the root cortex of white clover

Graham D. Walker

Physics and Engineering Laboratory, DSIR, Private Bag, Lower Hutt, New Zealand

Abstract Large intracellular inclusions in the root cortex of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) have been observed by scanning electron microscopy. X-ray microanalysis of the inclusions indicates that they are rich in manganese, the concentration of which is estimated to be as high as 40% by weight.
