Acaena profundeincisa (Bitter) B. H. Macmillan comb. nov. (Rosaceae) of New Zealand

AbstractThe combination Acaena profundeincisa (Bitter) B. H. Macmillan is made for a widespread species of subalpine to alpine grassland and shrubland in the North and South Islands of New Zealand. A. profundeincisa is distinguished by its subglaucous foliage with contrasting leaflet surfaces, its few, deeply incised leaflet teeth, and its red anthers. Full synonymy and description are given. Plants now regarded as A. profundeincisa have been identified as A. sanguisorbae var. pilosa Kirk and A. hirsutula Bitter; the correct application of the 2 latter names is discussed.
