Abstract  Somatic chromosome numbers are documented for the 5 species and 2 subspecies of Corynocarpus. C. cribbianus, C. dissimilis, C. laevigatus, and C. similis are diploid (2n = 46). C. rupestris ssp. arborescens is tetraploid (2n = 92). C. rupestris ssp. rupestris is also tetraploid (2n = 92), but a single hexaploid seedling (2n = c. 138) was also encountered. 2n = 46 for C. laevigatus is different from an earlier report of n = 22. Counts of the other taxa are published for the first time.
