Abstract A new species,
Hebe perbella, is described
from western Northland, New Zealand. This attractive cliff-dwelling shrub is
distinguished by its glabrous, flattened, ridged branchlets; olive-green to
dark green, fleshy, lanceolate leaves; red-brown inflorescence rachises; and
violet-red to lilac flowers, with a rather short corolla tube, acute corolla
lobes, and subacuminate capsules. It is a naturally uncommon species considered
to be under threat from the spread of introduced weedy species.
