Climate change: integrating human and natural dimensions

This image is from Dr John Campbell's Keynote Address: The Human Dimensions of Climate Change - Challenges and Opportunities

A workshop on integrating research on human and natural dimensions of climate change was held in Wellington on 8 February 2002. It brought social scientists, natural scientists and representatives from central and local government, industry, agricultural and forestry sectors together in order to:

  • Identify needs for social science research and advice related to climate change
  • Help planners and policymakers identify scientists who can help them with such advice
  • Stimulate collaboration between natural and social scientists to address climate change research needs.

The workshop was sponsored by the National Science Strategy Committee on Climate Change, the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO, the Royal Society's New Zealand Climate Committee, the Royal Society's International Geosphere Biosphere Programme Committee, the International Global Change Institute (IGCI) and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).
