Primary resources sciences and technologies in New Zealand

This web page has been set up by researchers with interests in the sciences related to primary resources in New Zealand. It contains information about New Zealand's involvement and capability in primary resources research, and contacts to some of the researchers involved in these sciences in New Zealand.

Royal Society Committee on Primary Resources

The Royal Society Committee on Primary Resources was established in 1994, and represents one of the Electoral Colleges of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

Terms of Reference

  1. The creation, Terms of Reference, and duration of the committee shall be approved by the Society Council.
  2. The Committee will be chaired by the Primary Resources representative elected by the Primary Resources Electoral College to serve on the RSNZ Council. The Chair's term of office will be for the duration of the time that he/she serves on the Council of the RSNZ (usually two years but renewable to at most 4 years)
  3. The current constituent societies of the Primary Resources Electoral College are the NZ Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Science, Agronomy Society of New Zealand, NZ Society of Animal Production, NZ Society of Forestry, NZ Grassland Assn, NZ Plant Protection Society, NZ Society of Soil Science, and NZ Veterinary Association. Each of these societies will appoint a member to serve on the committee. Normally the member will be the current President or nominee, of the member society.,
  4. The term of office of the committee shall normally be for two years or for the duration of the committee, if less. If the committee's term is longer than two years then half of the members shall stand down at the completion of each two years and will be eligible for renewal or replacement.
  5. The committee shall adhere to the Society's Code of Ethics.
  6. The committee will provide a plan outlining its proposed activity to the Council for approval subject to budget. The plan will be updated annually.
  7. The committee will propose an annual budget to the CEO prior to the Royal Society's annual budget finalisation.
  8. The committee will provide an annual report to the Society Council.
  9. The Royal Society officer assigned to the committee is responsible for all minutes and administrative matters of the committee.
  10. The committee shall advise the CEO and Society Council on all matters of concern and respond to any request.
  11. The committee will provide a forum for constituent scientific societies to share knowledge and experience, and to develop collaborative approaches to challenges and issues.
  12. The committee will anticipate issues relating to primary resource S&T and develop advice to the Royal Society Council and Government based on consultation with constituent society members.
  13. The committee will promote public awareness of the achievements of science and technology in primary resources science and technology.
  14. The committee will increase awareness of career opportunities and promote professional development, high ethical standards, and excellence in primary resource science and technology.
