- School Leaders’ Symposium 2007:
“Better than Before” Held in Auckland, on 2 and 3 July 2007, this
symposium aimed at offering quality professional development for
current and aspiring school leaders and managers of New Zealand
schools. It was jointly organised by the Royal Society of NZ and
Hamilton Boys' High School. The symposium offered a range of quality
presentations on strategies and ideas to assist schools and teachers in
making their schools “better than before”.

“making the difference” Held in Wellington, on 27 and 28 April
2006, this symposium aimed at offering quality professional development
for current and aspiring school leaders and managers of New Zealand
secondary schools. It was jointly organised by the Royal Society of NZ
and Hamilton Boys' High School. The symposium offered a range of
quality presentations on strategies and ideas to assist schools and
teachers in “making the difference” with their students

- Towards 2020: Challenges for the Social Science Community (26 May
2005). This workshop was hosted by the Royal Society of New Zealand in
association with the NZ National Commission for UNESCO, the Social

Managers' Symposium "from
good to great". This symposium was presented by The
Royal
Society of New Zealand in association with Hamilton Boys' High School
on 27/28 April 2005 at the Novotel in Hamilton. It offered quality
practical and contemporary professional development for secondary
school managers.

Society is committed to fostering the standing of the social sciences.
In the last two years members of the Social Science Advisory Committee
have contributed to the RSNZ submission for the Royal Commission on
Genetic Modification, advised on the RSNZ Code of Ethics and organised
a forum on Research, Policy and Practice. Work in progress includes
professional development initiatives for social science teachers and
improvement in the number of applications by social science teachers
for Teacher Fellowships.
