New Zealand Science, Mathematics and Technology Teacher Fellowships
During their fellowship, teachers fully immerse themselves into the
discovery of knowledge or the transformation of it into useful products
or systems and, as a consequence, become more skilled in the
communication of sciences and technology. Whatever they do, the
evidence shows that the teachers return to the classroom rejuvenated
and inspired. They pass that inspiration and enthusiasm on to their students. The Fellows are hosted by industry or institutions such as tertiary institutions, local or territorial authorities, community groups or research institutes. Their projects encompass all areas of sciences, mathematics, social
sciences or technology. The Scheme is not constrained to teachers of
these subjects; teachers of music, arts, classics, and careers advisers
have been awarded Teacher Fellowships where their project addresses the
Scheme's objectives.
There are currently three types of Teacher Fellowships. All place teachers into a research/technology environment, however they differ in their eligibility, length of Fellowship and overall focus.
