Travel Grants

 (Previously known as the "Royal Society of New Zealand Science and Technology Awards - Beginning Scientists" were established by the Society in 1979 as the "Young Scientists' Fund".)

Realising the importance to beginning scientists of the opportunity to travel overseas and present the results of their work at an international scientific conference, the Society established a fund to enable it to assist students undertaking PhD degrees at New Zealand universities to attend their first overseas scientific conference (this includes summer school or workshop).

Grants to individual scientists are unlikely to exceed $1,000. It is anticipated that students will seek other funding to assist with their overseas scientific conference attendance. Successful students will be required to supply a report on their overseas scientific conference attendance within a month of their attendance at the overseas scientific conference.

Applications for the March 2008 funding round have closed.

The Application Form must be emailed to: TravelGrants@rsnz.org

One photocopy of the signed Application Form, and official academic record (not laminated) must be sent via post to:

  • IGAC Young Scientist Travel Awards - International Global Atmospheric Chemistry Project designed to fund young New Zealand scientist' trip to IGAC conferences.
  • James G. Hay Travel Award - to assist New Zealand university staff or post-graduate students in biomechanics to present a paper at each biennial ISB Congress.
