Alpha 116 - Fatal impact: the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Written by Dr Christopher Hollis, Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences.

The alpha details the impact of the asteroid’s direst hit on the Yucatan Penisula and the resulting scenario on planet earth. The effects on life forms and the generation of fire, heat storms, tsunami, earthquakes and atmospheric changes are graphically described.

The evidence for this event 65 million years ago, is presented with detailed reference to geological discoveries both overseas and the seven New Zealand sites that illustrate the KT boundary event. In conclusion the upside to extinction is discussed.
