Alpha 131 - Climate Change Science: Human Influence on the Atmosphere

Written by Phil Kendon, Dr. Mike Harvey, Dr. Dominic Ferretti and Dr.Katja Riedel

Natural greenhouse gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide keep the Earth warmer than it would otherwise be. The enhanced greenhouse effect refers to the additional energy that is trapped when further greenhouse gases are added to. This Alpha shows how research at New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) contributes to our understanding of the global processes that determine the variations of these two greenhouse gases.
