The need for accurate food labeling, the role of the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) and how label information can be interpreted by consumers.

For many people, choosing food in the modern supermarket is no longer simply a matter of judging freshness or quality. More and more consumers want to know exactly what they are eating – and the way they normally get this information is from the food label.

But if you are, for example, preparing a cheesecake from a package mix, scanning the small print on the box for the ingredients can be confusing – the contents seem to consist mostly of chemicals with long and unfamiliar names, and a series of additives that are referred to solely by numbers.
