Food
labeling – what are we eating? -

need for accurate food labeling, the role of the Australia New Zealand
Food
Authority (ANZFA) and how label information can be interpreted by
consumers. For many people, choosing food in the modern supermarket is no
longer simply a
matter of judging freshness or quality. More and more consumers want to
know
exactly what they are eating – and the way they normally get this
information
is from the food label. But if you are, for example, preparing a cheesecake
from a package mix, scanning the small print on the box for the
ingredients can
be confusing – the contents seem to consist mostly of chemicals with
long and
unfamiliar names, and a series of additives that are referred to solely
by
numbers.
