November
- Ephraim Gazo: Currently a year 13
student and Deputy Head Boy at Naenae College in Lower Hutt. Ephraim
used to take science subjects last year but has recently been exposed
to different forums, which gave him some ideas about creating a
sustainable New Zealand, therefore, Ephraim has decided to pursue a
career in teaching or politics instead so that he may influence more
people.
- Rebecca Teague: Currently a year
13 student at Rangitoto College where she studies; Calculus, Chemistry,
Biology, Physics and English. Recently, Rebecca was awarded a Royal
Society of New Zealand scholarship and a Talented School Students
Travel Award to attend the Youth ANZAAS forum in Perth in July.
October
- Alicia Paulsen: Currently
year 13 student studying at Linwood College in Christchurch.This years
highlight was attending The International Summer School for Young
Physicists (ISSYP) in August. Alicia is planning to study physics and
astronomy at Canterbury University next year
- Aamir Mulla: Currently a year
13 student at Waitakere College, attended the National Science and
Technology Forum 2007 held in Auckland. One of the things Aamir
remembers from the National Science and Technology Forum is that “If
your dreams don’t scare you they are not big enough”. As a result,
Aamir intends to pursue a career in astronomy, hopefully for an
international agency like NASA.
September
- Simon Williams: currently in his
second year of a bachelor of science at Waikato University, where he is
majoring in Physics and Chemistry. Attended the Genesis Research
Science and Technology forum in 2005.
- Cheryl Miner-Williams:
studying vocalizations of two New Zealand endemic birds, the rifleman
and the whitehead.
August
- Kusay Bearakat: attend Biofutures
in Brisbane, studying at The Manurewa High School in Auckland.
- Rebecca Johansen: attend
Biofutures in Brisbane and the National Rotary Science and Technology
Forum , studying at Rangitoto College, thinking about pursuing
medicine or other biomedical pathways.
- Reid Forrest: completed Masters
degree in Marine Science at Otago University after previously having
completed a BSC in Zoology and Post-Graduate Diploma in Marine Science
at Otago as well. Now based in Nelson working with the Cawthron
Institute.
July
- Jayeun Lee: first became a member of
the Royal Society of New Zealand through the National Science &
Technology Fair in 2001 with a project in geology. Subsequently has
gone on to study Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Auckland
and graduated at the end of 2006 with first class honours.
- Emily Adlam: attended Realise the
Dream in 2005 and has recently started her GOLD CREST project on
eco-friendly domestic energy generation. Attended International Future
Problem Solving competition in the USA. Would like to study engineering
or physics in the future.
Jun
- Jonathon Platt: attended Realise
the Dream 2004 where he subsequently won the Institution of
Professional Engineers New Zealand Award to travel to the Taiwan
Science Fair in 2005. Jonathon is in the third year of his Engineering
degree at University of Auckland, specialising in Mechatronics.
- Riddhi Gupta: attended Realise the
Dream in 2005 and the Transit of Venus in 2004. Currently, a second
year student of economics, physics, and political studies at University
of Auckland and would love to conduct independent research in
theoretical physics.
May
- Tim Clauson: was part of the 2006
RSNZ BigScience adventures film making competition. Currently studying
at the University of Waikato towards a Bachelor of Electronic Commerce
(BECom)
- Sam Gordon: completed Bachelor of
Engineering Degree at the end of 2006 at The University of Auckland,
finishing at the top of his specialization. Has been accepted into
Oxford University for a 1-year Master of Science in Environmental
Change & Management, which he is really excited about, partly
because he'll be only the 3rd New Zealander in 13 years to go on the
course.
April
- Allen Crimmins: a first year
engineering student at the University of Auckland having just completed
his 7th form year at Pukekohe High School. Attended RSNZ Big Science
Adventures documentary competition 2006.
- Sasha Srivastava: has enrolled at
the University of Otago to commence a degree majoring in Economics.
Recipient of three NCEA Scholarships – Economics, Mathematics with
Statistics and French. This has landed her a Top Scholar Award from
NCEA. National finalist for GenEthics essay competition.
March
- Michael Price: represented New
Zealand at the London International Youth Science Forum 2006. Currently
studying Physics, Biochemistry and French at the University of Otago.
- Lychhun Kouch: attended the London
International Youth Science Forum in 2005, pursuing second year in a
career in medicine at the University of Auckland.
February
- Phoebe Harrop: a year 12 (6th
form) student at New Plymouth Girls’ High school, studying English,
Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Spanish and Music. GenETHICS essay
competition finalist 2006. Recently attended Hands On Science course at
Otago University over the summer holidays.
January
- Simon Murphy: on a research
studentship in sunny La Serena, Chile, working at the Gemini South
Observatory.
