Under his will, Professor W. N. Benson FRSNZ, former President, left one-tenth of the residue of his estate to the Society to supplement funds available for the publication of scientific papers. The rules governing the fund (established in 1964) provide that its revenue shall be applied by resolution of Council to payment of the costs of preparing or printing geological maps or other scientific illustrations accompanying papers accepted for the Society's publications.
