Travel Fund Awards were made to: Professor Ahmed Al-Jumaily of
the Auckland University of Technology to attend the American Society of
Mechanical Engineering (ASME) International Mechanical Engineering
Congress and Exposition in Seattle, USA ($1,500); Dr Eckehard
Brockerhoff of ENSIS, Christchurch, to attend the International Union
of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO) on "Natural enemies and other
multi-scale influences on forest insects" in Vienna ($1,500); Dr
Peng Cao of the University of Waikato to attend the International
Symposium on Advanced Materials Processing (ISAMP-2007) in Bagalkot,
India ($1,500).
A Publishing Award was made to Hayley Lawrence of the Allan Wilson
Centre, Albany to publish the results of her research on the Chatham
Island Täiko ($2,000).
Senior Scientist Research: No award was made.
2006
Travel Fund Awards were made to Dr Ilse Breitwieser of Landcare
Research to participate in a conference in Spain on "Evolution of the
Compositae" ($3643) and to Dr Charles Eason of Auckland to contribute
to key pest control meetings at Reading, UK ($1800).
A Publishing Award was made to Mary Varnham to publish the collected
lectures of the Transit of Venus lecture series which were broadcast on
Radio New Zealand ($2,000).
Senior Scientist Research: Dr Daphne Lee, University of Otago, to
continue her research on the Lauraceae fossils and fossil insects
($7,122).
2005
Travel Fund Awards were made to Dr Dave Dawson, a New Zealand
quantitative ecologist with the Greater London Council, to contribute
to two key ornithological meetings in New Zealand ($3,000); Dr David
Morgan, Landcare Research Lincoln, to attend the 22nd Vertebrate Pest
Conference in Berkeley, California ($1,500); and Professor Nanthi
Bolan, Soil Science, Massey University, to present papers at the
Frontiers in Environment Science and Engineering in India ($1,500).
A Publishing Award was made to Mary Varnham to publish the collected
lectures of the e=mc² series which were broadcast on Radio New
Zealand ($2,000).
Senior Scientist Research: Dr Jack Grant-Mackie, to assist his work
at the University of Kiel, Germany, in May–June 2006 ($3,450), and to
Professor Neil McNaughton, to assist with the maintenance, update and
expansion of the reference system for his forthcoming book ($6,550).
