Travel Award

Applications for the Travel Award should be made in the form of a letter or e-mail addressed to the CEO of the RSNZ:- awards@rsnz.org, headed "Charles Fleming Fund Travel Award”, containing all relevant details relating to the proposed use of the funds. The closing date for applications is 1 May 2008, and funding will be provided each year as long as it is available. The event you are applying for must end after the closing date for applications.

The Travel Fund will be decided by the Presidents of the Society and Academy Councils or their delegates, supported by the Chief Executive.

The fund will give preference to those who do not normally have access to travel funds through their place of employment and who will be actively involved in the activity. Examples include expenses for:

  • presenting a paper or a poster
  • participating in a summer school or workshop
  • representing New Zealand at an international committee meeting.

Applicants should:

  1. Describe the event they will be attending (including dates and venue) and explain why attendance at this will be of value to them or the organisation to which they belong (300 words maximum).
  2. Include a budget with details of other travel funding received or applied for.
  3. Include a brief Curriculum Vitae (1 page) plus a list of refereed publications for the previous 5 years.

At the conclusion of the travel, a brief report (1000 words maximum) explaining how the objectives have been met, should be submitted to the CEO of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
