Cookies
If you're a regular visitor to the RSNZ website, you'll notice that it
has a new look. What's not so obvious is that there's also a lot going on
behind the scenes. The new site is designed for a consistent appearance,
quicker access to the information you need, and makes use of up-to-date
internet technologies.
One of these new features is known as "cookies". To most of
you this feature will be invisible, which is just the way we want it.
However if you are having problems accessing the membership area, then
please read on...
What is a cookie, and why do we want you to have one?
A cookie is a very small piece of information that gets put on your hard
drive by some web pages to be retrieved by subsequent web pages. This
is useful for having the browser remember specific information.
In the case of the RSNZ members area, a cookie is used to remember your
"username" and "password" once you have logged onto
the members area. That way you don't have to enter your username and password
each time you come back to the RSNZ website (unless you are using a different
machine).
If many people use your machine or you are concerned about security, then
the RSNZ website also gives you the option to erase the cookie by using
the 'Logout' option.
If it's the first time you've entered the membership area and your browser
tells you that our server "wishes to set a cookie," it's telling
you that our server wants to assign you a unique session ID that will
allow it to keep track of your username and password while you move around
the membership area of our site. The cookie contains absolutely no personal
information about you.
If your browser is set to automatically accept cookies, then you will
not see the notification message that our server wishes to set a cookie.
However, if your browser is set to warn you before accepting cookies,
then you will see the notification - we strongly suggest that you click
"OK" to accept our server's cookie.
Because our server needs your session ID to remember your login name and
password, if you say "no" to its request to set a cookie, you
will not be able to use the membership area of the RSNZ website.
Basic requirements to use the new RSNZ website:
- Internet Explorer version 3 or greater
- Netscape Navigator version 3 or greater
- Javascript enabled (check your browser preferences)
- Cookies enabled (check your browser preferences)
