Types of membership
Ordinary Member
Any person who is able and willing to subscribe to the object of the
Society can become an Ordinary Member on payment of the relevant
subscription.
Professional Member
Ordinary Members who apply and have their professional
qualifications
recognised by Council are called Professional Members (MRSNZ) upon
payment of the relevant subscription.
Student Member
There is a special reduced membership for full-time students.
Pass-through Member
The Society offers members of Branches and Constituent Organisations
ordinary membership at half the Ordinary Member rate.
Companion
The Society may confer the title of Companion (CRSNZ) on any person
who, in Council’s opinion, has achieved a high level of eminence in the
promotion or encouragement of science or technology. Companions pay no
subscription. Nominations may be made by any member of the Society.
Fellow
The Academy Council may elect as a Fellow (FRSNZ) any person who in
their opinion has achieved distinction in research or the advancement
of science or technology. Fellows are required to pay an annual
subscription.
Honorary Member
The Council may grant Honorary Membership to any Ordinary Member
who,
in Council’s opinion, has rendered eminent service to science or
technology, or to the Society. Honorary Members pay no subscription.
Honorary Fellow
The Academy Council may, from time to time, admit as an Honorary
Fellow, any person who is not normally resident in New Zealand, and
who, in their opinion, has rendered eminent service to science or
technology. Honorary Fellows pay no subscription.
Life Member
Life membership is available to members who wish to pay a lump sum
of $5,000. This is non-refundable and will confer on them life
membership of the Society. Such membership may
be revoked if the member wishes to resign, or is removed from
membership under the Society's process for dealing with complaints
under its Code
of Professional Standards and Ethics.
