Auckland Festival of Science and TechnologyA report on the first Auckland Festival of Science and Technology, held 30 June to 6 July, said that an estimated 95,600 people participated in the Festival, attending on average 3.6 events each. Almost 85% of participants who responded to a questionnaire said that their interest in science and technology had increased as a result of the Festival. Forty-two organisations took part, staging a total of 373 events over the seven days. The Royal Society contracted Caroline Cook, who is based in Dunedin, to organise the Festival, drawing on experience gained from the very successful biennial New Zealand International Science Festival in Dunedin (next one is 29 June - 7 July, 2002). It is hoped that another Auckland Festival can be mounted in 2003.
