Workshop

As an initial measure, the Royal Society of New Zealand, together with the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology hosted a one-day workshop entitled 'Science in Society', held at Te Papa, Wellington on 20 June, 2001. Eighty representatives from science-based organisations were invited to discuss issues such as: trust in science, management of technological risk and uncertainty, mechanisms for public participation in science, and communication of science. The keynote speakers were Professor Brian Wynne (Lancaster University, UK) and Dr Mere Roberts (University of Auckland)
