Dr Caroline Saunders has extensive experience in leading and managing consultancy type businesses of the type which the Royal Society might seek to develop in partnership with its stakeholders. She has high level experience in dealing with fundamental issues affecting our major business sectors. She has studied science/technology and business development issues.

Caroline has 20 years research expertise in the UK and New Zealand. She has over 100 publications specialising on economic impact of policy. Her current research specialises in economic development of New Zealand especially for the regions. This includes assessing optimum use of NZ resources to improve well-being of New Zealanders including research on international trade, resource use in regions, market access and development of new technologies. In addition she is developing novel ways of assessing the impact of development including the social and environmental impacts. She has undertakes research for a wider range of private and public bodies both here and overseas. These include the EU commission, MAF, MFAT, Treasury, MFE, High Growth and various producer groups.

She was on the National Science Panel. She also was on the Royal Society Council and chaired their Social Sciences Committee. She has ideal skills to lead the business development activities of the Royal Society whilst at the same time bringing a social science perspective.
