Science journalsRSNZ Publishing produces eight quality research journals of regional importance to Australasia, the entire Pacific Basin, and Antarctica, and their southern connections, with relevance to researchers worldwide. These national journals, owned by the New Zealand Government (with the exception of the Journal of the Royal Society of New Zealand) and published on its behalf by the Royal Society of New Zealand, are the main storehouse of refereed knowledge specific to the natural sciences and primary production in New Zealand.
General informationFrom 2006, all papers submitted for publication in any of the New Zealand primary research journals published by the Royal Society of New Zealand will be subject to a NZ/US$70 per printed page charge upon publication of the article, to a maximum of NZ/US$700 per paper. For New Zealand authors only, exceptions may be made in cases of genuine hardship and where no research funding has been available to the author. Most New Zealand funding agencies (e.g. FRST, HRC and Marsden Fund) make explicit provision in their full-cost funding for the cost of publication. Costs of publication from these projects have already been allowed for. In all cases, wide (and free) access to the journals is greatly increased. Although author page charges were introduced in 2003, institutional electronic subscriptions are now available to be shared among all members of an institution, thus lowering costs.
