Reinstatement of the genus Oligosoma (Reptilia: Lacertilia: Scincidae)

G. B. Patterson* and C. H. Daugherty+

New Zealand skinks previously referred to the genus Leiolopisma are well differentiated morphologically and genetically from their overseas relatives and thus are generically distinct. The generic name Oligosoma Girard, 1857 is resurrected to accommodate these 20 species.

Keywords: Oligosoma, Leiolopisma, systematics, taxonomy, skinks, lizards, reptiles, endemic, New Zealand
