Confirmation of type species for Mesozoic brachiopod genus Aparimarhynchia

D.A.B. MacFarlan*

The genus Aparimarhynchia was recently introduced for small, Early to mid Triassic rhynchonellides from the South Island of New Zealand (MacFarlan, 1992: 15- 16, 65-66). Two species, A. dunrobinensis and A. takitimuensis were included.

In that monograph, two different type- species designations were published at the moment of proposal. "Aparimarhynchia dunrobinensis" on p. 65, and "Aparimarhynchia takitimuensis" on p. 16. The reference on p. 16 is in error. In order to dispel any ambiguity, it is herein proposed that, following the principle of the first reviser (lCZN, 1985), A. dunrobinensis be permanently adopted as the type species of Aparimarhynchia.
