Atractites guards from the Early Jurassic of New Zealand

Three specimens of Atractites aratauraensis n. sp. are described from the basal or Early Jurassic of southwest Auckland. They represent the first member of the family Xiphoteuthididae Naef, 1922, and the first complete aulacocerid guards known from New Zealand. All previously described New Zealand Aulacocerida are members of the family Aulacoceratidae Mojsisovics, 1882.
