Journal of the Royal Society of New Zealand abstractsAustralasian species of Paracorophium (Crustacea: Amphipoda): the separate identities of P. excavatum (Thomson, 1884) and P. brisbanensis sp. nov.M. A. ChapmanCentre for Biodiversity and Ecology Research, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Waikato, Private Bag 3105, Hamilton, New Zealand.Abstract Paracorophium excavatum (Thomson, 1884) is redescribed from the type locality, and distribution records in New Zealand are amplified. A previously unrecognised species, P. brisbanensis sp. nov., is described from Queensland, Australia. Earlier taxonomists confused the two species and used a mixture of their characteristics in their incorrect descriptions of P. excavatum.
