Abstract  Foliar sprays of different nitrogen compounds promoted rather than inhibited Hieracium pilosella in the weeks following spray application on undeveloped tussock grassland. Continued annual granular applications promoted general vegetation growth to the detriment of H. pilosella in the absence of grazing. Single applications of boron at high rates had specific adverse effects on H. pilosella for up to 4–5 years, and possibly promotive effects on short-term grasses.
