Abstract For the first time a gynophore is reported in
florets of the rare New Zealand endemic Desmoschoenus spiralis
(Cyperaceae). It relates closely to structures reported for florets of
Scirpus nodosus and strengthens the case for inclusion of both species
within tribe Ficineae.
