Abstract The generic name Androstoma Hook.f. is
reinstated for a single endemic New Zealand species originally described as
A. empetrifolia Hook.f., but subsequently reassigned to Cyathodes
Labill. by Hooker. However, C. empetrifolia (Hook.f.) Hook.f. is an
anomalous species within the diverse taxa circumscribed by Cyathodes s.
lat., differing primarily in inflorescence structure, and floral and fruit
characters, consequently the names Androstoma Hook.f. and A.
empetrifolia Hook.f. are reinstated. Lectotypification of A.
empetrifolia is discussed and clarified.
