Abstract  An evaluation is presented of the exceptionally large number of name changes, particularly of generic attribution, proposed for New Zealand gnaphalioid taxa, principally in the past decade. The transfer of certain New Zealand species to Anaphalioides, Euchiton, and Pseudognaphalium is supported, but some other changes, including the establishment of Ewartiothamnus, the resurrection of Psychrophyton, and the relocation of New Zealand species of Helichrysum, require (and are now receiving) further study.

Keywords  Gnaphalieae; Anaphalioides; Anaphalis; Cassinia; Craspedia; Euchiton; Ewartia; Ewartiothamnus; Gnaphalium; Haastia; Helichrysum; Leucogenes; Ozothamnus; Pseudognaphalium; Psychrophyton; Rachelia; Raoulia
