Abstract A new combination
Alectryon excelsus subsp.
grandis is made for the Three Kings Islands taxon first described by
Cheeseman as
Alectryon excelsus var.
grandis, but later raised to
specific rank by him as
A. grandis. Descriptions of the subspecies, its
differences from
A. excelsus subsp.
excelsus, distribution,
ecology, and chromosome counts of the subspecies are provided. A lectotype is
selected for
A. excelsus subsp.
grandis and its conservation
status reviewed.
