Plagiochila sect. Plagiochila (Hepaticae) in SE Asia and
Melanesia, with descriptions of two new species

Abstract Plagiochila microdentata sp. nov. and
Plagiochila spinosa sp. nov., both of sect.
Plagiochila, are
described from New Guinea and illustrated. Three species names are newly placed
in synonymy:
Plagiochila koghiensis,
P. lilliana, and
P.
pembayana are treated as conspecific with
P. gymnoclada.
Plagiochila circumserrata,
P. fusca,
P. gymnoclada,
P.
korthalsiana,
P. loriana,
P. nobilis, and
P. sumatrana
are included in the section.
Plagiochila inflata and
P. vernicosa
are excluded from the section. A key to the nine species of sect.
Plagiochila in SE Asia and Melanesia is provided.
