Abstract   Two new smut species are described from New Zealand. A presumed endemic species, Restiosporium dissimile sp. nov., was discovered on seed heads of Apodasmia similis (Restionaceae) in the Chatham Islands. An introduced leaf smut, Entyloma echinaceae sp. nov., was found causing severe damage to a crop of Echinacea angustifolia (Asteraceae) grown for herbal use.

Keywords   Asteraceae; Entyloma echinaceae; Restionaceae; Restiosporium dissimile; smut fungi
