Abstract A new species, Dracophyllum elegantissimum, is described and illustrated. D. elegantissimum is a tree with a closed candelabra-shaped crown, long and narrow leaves with prominent curled apices, light to dark pink flowers, and an ovary with the apex tapering. D. elegantissimum is compared with D. traversii and D. latifolium with which it can be confused. It differs from them in growth habit, leaf, inflorescence, flower, and fruiting characters. D. elegantissimum has a restricted distribution and is endemic to the north-west Nelson area in New Zealand.
