Abstract New records of planktonic cyanobacteria
in New Zealand freshwaters are reported. Identified for the first time
were one genus, Sphaerocavum, represented by one species, and
one species of Aphanocapsa, five species of Microcystis,
and three of Anabaena. Microcystis panniformis has
previously been recorded only from tropical or subtropical regions.
Descriptions, drawings, and photographs of species are presented.
