Abstract Individuals of Radula
uvifera can be divided into two groups. Radula uvifera sens.
str. produces amentulose branches infrequently and has long perianths
with the mouth not ventrally folded, with 3 - 8 straight lamellae that
are not jagged in relief on either surface. Radula pseudoscripta
produces amentulose branches regularly at bases of alternate leaf pairs
and has squat perianths with a ventrally folded mouth, with 5 -
14 lamellae that are sinuous for at least part of their length and
jagged in relief on either surface. Morphological variation in this
constellation of characters is discontinuous. Radula multicarinata
is a homotypic synonym of Radula uvifera and is retained in
synonymy of R. uvifera. A new species, Radula pseudoscripta,
is proposed for the multicarinate plants. Both species are
endemic to New Zealand.
