Abstract   The original journal publications of four Cheeseman species have been overlooked by later botanists because the descriptions were repeated 24 years later as "n. sp." and "n. comb." in the 2nd edition (1925) of his Manual of New Zealand Flora. The implications of these later erroneous citations are discussed.
