Abstract  The causal organism of a stem canker disease of Limonium Mill. `Chorus Magenta' was recently identified and named as Phomopsis limonii I. Harvey, E. Morgan & G. Burge. In our experiments, a wound site was the most likely route for entry of P. limonii into the plant. Temperature influenced the onset of disease with no symptoms observed after 6 weeks at 10deg.C but with all test plants at 20, 25, and 30deg.C showing symptoms within 3 weeks. Symptom appearance at 15deg.C was intermediate between that at 10 and 20deg.C with all plants diseased after 4 weeks. There was no difference in the efficacy of the fungicides prochloraz and tebuconazole at controlling disease incidence and development of symptoms. Overall, control of the disease was poor in all treatments although symptom development was delayed most when the fungicides were applied 1-2 h after inoculation.
