Papers submitted in 2005

In 2005, the New Zealand Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science (NZJCHS) received 155 submissions (cf. 106, 2004)—the highest number on record for the journal. New Zealand researchers submitted 17% (cf. 18%, 2004) of the total papers: New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research Limited (6%), Massey University (3%), Unitec New Zealand (2.5%), and The Horticulture and Food Research Institute of New Zealand Ltd (2%). The rest of the papers were submitted by authors from 22 countries: Australia, Brazil, China, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sultanate of Oman, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

Over half of the papers (55% cf. 60%, 2004) submitted were in crop science, with the remainder in horticultural science. The main horizontal divisions by discipline were: production (32% cf. 25%), breeding and genetics (16%, same as in 2004), physiology (13% cf. 24%), postharvest (13% cf. 8%), pathology (7% cf. 12%), insect pests (7% cf. 8%), and economics (5%, same as in 2004).

Papers were refereed by 316 referees from 42 countries: Australasia and the Pacific (34%), North America (31%), Europe (22%), Asia (5%), Africa and the Middle East (5%), and Central and South America (3%).

The rejection rate for papers submitted in 2005 is currently 45%. Most papers were rejected because the work reported did not meet our standards for publication (i.e., the work reported was not new, had major deficiencies, or was of poor quality).

Papers published in 2005

Volume 33 is composed of 52 scientific papers and 8 book reviews printed over 432 pages in 4 issues. In 2005 the average time from submission to acceptance was 29 weeks. The average time from acceptance to publication online was 16 weeks and publication in the printed journal was 22 weeks. Average total publication times were 45 weeks for online publication and 51 weeks for publication in print.
