Abstract  A new radiocarbon age determination of 3115 +/- 35 yr B.P. has been obtained for a charred wood sample from within a block- and ash-flow deposit at Mount Edgecumbe. Together with reliable dates for Holocene tephra stratigraphy, the new datum leads to a stronger control on the chronology of Mount Edgecumbe and implies that activity continued after the widespread Waimahia Tephra dated at 3280 yr B.P.

Keywords  Edgecumbe; radiocarbon age determinations
