Vivjenne Benzie (Mrs C. J. Burrows)

Department of Zoology, University of Canterbury

Abstract Galaxias vulgaris Stokell is a totally freshwater fish species and the adults usually live a cryptic life under stones. The life history of this species, with special emphasis on its embryology, growth rate, and sex ratio, is described. Comparisons are made with other members of the family Galaxiidae, especially G. maculatus attenuatus.
